Randalstown teams are known in hockey circles as being friendly and sociable.  It's a great place to play, umpire, coach and socialise!  Once a green....always a green!

The Club has produced many great and famous names in Ulster and Irish hockey  - no interprovincial or national squad is complete without a few Randalstown players!

History of Randalstown Hockey Club

A hockey club called the Old Bleach was formed in 1949 as a factory team and in 1962 changed to the name of Randalstown Ladies Hockey Club. At this time the club had a total of 14 players and played their matches on a grass field in Neillsbrook Randalstown now occupied by the Rugby Club. The first team entered the league at Minor Level and the same group of players won promotion each year until they achieved Senior League status in 1975. Proudly, Randalstown have retained their position in Senior League to this day. One year after gaining senior status, the Hockey and Rugby Clubs amalgamated and the ladies adopted the now famous green and grey colours of Randalstown. The club now fields four teams competing in the various leagues of the Ulster Women’s hockey st1:place>Union. The 1st XI competes in the Senior League Section One, the 2nd XI in Qualifying League Section One, and the 3rd XI in Qualifying League Section Five. The clubs Veterans team (over 35s) includes some of its founding members and competes in the Ulster Women’s Veterans League. Underage teams have always been regarded as an essential part of the development of the club. This is reflected in the fact that a number of this years Senior Squad are graduates of our youth program. Youth coaching takes place on the Astroturf at the Antrim Forum and is supplied by qualified coaches from the Senior Squad. We regularly field U15, U16 and U21 sides for Ulster competitions.

o:p>The club won its first senior trophy in 1982 when the 1st XI brought home the Ulster Shield, since then the trophy cabinet at Randalstown has had its fill. Arguably the proudest moment in Randalstown history was securing the gold medal in the European Club Championship B Division in Bratislava in 1994. Throughout the 1990s Randalstown have been regarded as the major Irish team in indoor hockey. The club represented Ireland at indoor in Europe on three occasions, and have the honour of being the first Irish Hockey team (male or female) to represent Ireland at both indoor and outdoor hockey in the same year. With the demise of indoor hockey, Randalstown will be remembered by all for their stunning contribution to this area of the sport, the close skills and quick thinking required has certainly transferred well to the outdoor game for all Randalstown players involved.

From its inception the club has had a proud record of players who have gained International and Interprovincial honours. Not only has the club gained Senior representative honours but also many of today’s promising youngsters currently and in the past have represented Ulster and Ireland at U16, U18 and U21 levels. The Club is glad to have a dedicated coaching staff many of which were former players from the “Glory” years. Former Irish players Andrea McCullough and Mary Nugent have been heavily involved in coaching the senior squad, obviously this level of expertise and talent is invaluable not only for the current squad members but augers well for up and coming players within the ranks. With this proud history behind the club its no wonder the theme tune for the past 10 years has been “Simply the Best”.
